Winter in Florida: DNB Members Represent NB Well

DNB would like to recognize a few of our members who represented our province in the sunshine state this past winter. We are proud of all of your accomplishments. Thank you for representing New Brunswick well, and sharing some of your stories with us!

Vivian DeMerchant spent the winter riding with coach, Betsy Steiner out of Loxahatchee, FL. A highlight of Vivian’s summer was competing in her first Prix St. George classes with her gelding Keiren. The pair earned some personal bests in big classes. Way to go, Vivian!

Donna McInnis (DNB President) spent the winter riding with her coach John MacPherson in Wellington. John is an FEI Competitor, Trainer, Level III Dressage Coach & M Level Judge. John will be judging the DNB Championships in September of this year, and we are very much looking forward to it!

Erica Mackeen was one of two Maritimers to take part in the Youth Mentorship Program in Wellington. Within the epicenter of international dressage competition during the winter months, and home to the Adequan Global Dressage Festival, Erica, along with the other participants, met with some of Canada’s top dressage competitors, including Ashley Holzer, Jill Irving, Brittany Fraser, Chris Von Martels and Lindsay Kellock. She gained an inside look at the daily stable operations, training and competition regimes for these high performance athletes.

Jill Irving, founder of the Youth Mentorship Program, and fellow NB’er, competed once more at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington. One highlight of the winter was Jill’s participation in Team Canada’s gold place finish at the CDIO 3* Stillpoint Farm FEI Nations Cup. Irving started out with a fourth place finish in the CDIO 3* Grand Prix after scoring 68.480% with Degas 12 (De Niro x Regazzoni), a 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding she owns with Windhaven Farm. They followed up with fifth place in the CDIO 3* Grand Prix Special on 69.588% (EC, March 2017). We are so proud to call you one of our own here in NB, Jill!
